For years, the Centre of the Volunteers has been at Grottaferrata, in a building in Via dei Casali6. Here there is the office of the person responsible for the Branch and of the Councillors with the differnt colours, office of the clerks and of the collaborators.
Already, since the early years, after the birth of the Branch, some Volunteers moved to Rocca di Papa in the service of the Branch which was at its outset. They lived in a small apartment. Claretta, with her focolare lived here, Claretta was nominated by Chiara to be the persons Responsible for the Branch.
In 1974, Chiara suggests that a larger Centre should be found, where the newly formed Centre could be better accomodated. The house was found just in Via dei Casali6.
The ownership of the new house came from the donations and the loans given by the Female Volunteers from all over the world.
On the 26th, January 1979, Chiara comes to visit the house and says: "It's the first Centre which I go to visit (...) because one of the reasons why I came is to see the house: since it becomes ours and yours, so it's as if it is consacrated by the presence of Jesus in the midst and therefore it is something else".
In 1979 Chiara gives the name to the newly acquired house: it will be called Casetta Matilde. She wants to remember and honour Matilde, a Volunteer who for many years had been of service to the Centre on its outset and who went to the Heavenly Mariapolis in May of 1978 due to a tumor. Knowing that the Branch of the Bishops , Friends of the Focolare Movement and that Chiara was present during their first meeting, Matilde wrote to Chiara:"I offer my life for this new reality which is blooming in the Work of Mary!"
